Useless information

For those of you who like useless information (doubt it would make a good
pick-up line), here is a little. I pull the FAA database every month as
part of my directory of Coupes.

At the end of the August 2003, the FAA had 353,768 aircraft in their
downloadable database. Of these, 338,733 had valid registrations (not
revoked) and 300,189 had valid years (after 1900) and registrations. I
may
have killed a balloon or two by using that date. So here are the details:

Data is for valid registration with valid date.

Average year of manufacture 1971
Minimum year of manufacture 1910
Maximum year of manufacture 2003
Mode (most common) year of manufacture 1946 with 14,348 aircraft
Next closest year of manufacture is 1978 with 12,162 aircraft

Of the 2,997 Coupes listed

2nd Triennial mailed with no response 299*

Registration pending 28
Registered 2,001
Total Valid Coupes 2,621
Revoked 376
Total Coupes in FAA database 2,997

* Some go back to the 1980's and many have been scraped or destroyed.

My own data shows that only 2,329 Coupes are registered in the US and I
have no data showing they have been destroyed, scraped, or in a project
condition. My guess is there are fewer than 2,000 (maybe 1,800) flying in

the US. Of the 473 non-US Coupes I have data on, at least 193 are
revoked. How many of these are flying I am not sure.

End of today's useless information.
