Having a certificate signed by General Jimmy Doolittle
attesting that I had flown on the 50th anniversary of powered flight it was very
important that I fly today.
Here in Western Washington, flying conditions were idea. Not
OK, not nice, but ideal!!II
I took off with my sweetheart of 47 years beside me, into a
crisp still day. We cruised with my arm around her just as we had many years ago
as teenagers. An occasional touch of the controls was all that was needed
to keep us on course.
To our west, the snow covered Olympic Mountains, east, was
majestic Mount Rainier towering over the picturesque Puget Sound. We could see
Mt. Hood, and Mt. St. Helens to our south and Mt. Baker to the north. Visibility
measured over a hundred miles plus.
We touched down at Bremerton and had a perfect lunch and fine
fellowship with our good friend and fellow Couper Andy Pomeroy.
Back to home base as the sun set on one of the finer days of
our lives.
I hope everyone had as nice a day as we did.
