59 yrs. ago --Nov. 30th 1946around 3:30 pm.I had my first ride in NC2749H (I had just turned 12 in Oct.) . This was not my first ride in a Ercoupe however. My first ride in a Ercoupe was June 12,1946 when My father came home from Kansas City MO in his new coupe NC99136 . In 46 when you bought a new Ercoupe you became a dealer and got commission on any coupes you sold new. My father sold 49H to his neighbor. They flew 136 to Marshall MO on the 29th and flew both planes back home on the 30th. School was out about by the time they got home so I got to ride with our neighbor and than dad also took me up in 136. So I got two rides that day. Dad sold 99136 in early 56.
A little later in 1956 our neighbor sold 49H to my father. We (I had my lic. by than) flew it for about six mo.s and dad than sold it to a man who lived about thirty mi. away but in the same county. My dad and another neighbor by than had bought a Tri Pacer which they and I flew until 1972 when they sold it. It was than my father bought(49H) back from the first neighbor so my one son (my younger son flys I now regularly) that had learned to fly than could have a plane to fly without paying rent. and we have had it ever since.
I wanted to fly today on this anniversary but the weather is bad and cant. But I did get fly it on the 26th though. The son my dad bought the coupe back so he could fly was home and went with me. It was a great day.
