There is minimum equipment required by FAA such as a compass, A/S indicator, Altimeter and so
on if that is what you mean by minimum equipment. Also some engine gages.

Glen,

You mentioned "Minimum Equipment List".  Are you talking about a "Minimum Equipment List" or an "Equipment List"?  I'm sure that you are aware that that a "Minimum Equipment List" and an "Equipment List" are two completely different things, right?

I got pretty confused on this issue a while back because people were using the terms interchangeably, and they aren't interchangeable.  I'm still not 100% clear on all the regulatory requirements, but I did manage to figure out that our Coupes should have an Equipment List (if the factory issued one), but not a Minimum Equipment List.

In general terms, an Equipment List includes all the "stuff" that came on an airplane and the stuff that was added.  It should show the arm and weight of the installed equipment.  This is used mainly for weight and balance reasons and to record what the airplane was equipped with.

A Minimum equipment list defines what has to be operable on the airplane in order for it to legally fly, and as I understand it, only applies to part 135 operations and turbine powered airplanes.   A Minimum Equipment List does not apply to your Coupe unless it is being flown part 135.  And I think that in order to create a Minimum Equipment List for your airplane, you have to develop the list and then submit it to the FAA and they have to approve it before it is legal.

Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable of all the applicable regs can enlighten all of us as to the details of these two lists.  I barely know enough about it to even talk about it.
