As I remember, the accident in California resulting from aerobatics resulted in the tail assy being several hundred yards from the fuselage.....  Sounds like the elevator assy came off....
 
I think there is a Service Bulletin addresses the replacement of bolts/Checking bolts, etc....   If that happened, then the coupe would immediately flip into a 90 degree to direction mode, putting very high loads on the wings and center section......causing the buckling......; and not a center section rivet corrosion problem.
