I have been in contact with the NTSB inspectors, Univair and the FAA and the AIs and A&Ps in the Ercoupe Owners Club. If we can furnish enough information to the FAA regarding the results of our inspections then there is a very good chance that this will NOT BECOME AN AD! I have personally spoken to the person who will be responsible for issuing the AD. He told me that it was very evident that the Ercoupe in question was greatly overstressed causing the failure. He told me that he is not inclined to see this become an AD. If we can provide him with good solid test results then it will not happen. If we do not and there is another incident of failure then it will most likely become an AD.
