Aargh!  Larry, you win that point.  Let’s hope sanity sets in and Cessna decides to build planes in the U.S.

I heard the manufacturer of the only “American made” trike complain that he couldn’t afford to get any of the components made in the U.S.  He put everything out for bids to American companies.  Some refused to bid because it was for an aircraft.  Others jacked up the price to way over the foreign prices because it was for an aircraft.  They are all, he said, afraid of the American contingency-fee legal system.

At any rate, he has foreign companies make the components and he assembles them, “Made in America.”  He doesn’t hide it – he just expresses frustration.

Perhaps there will be some true American made LSA aircraft.  Quad City Ultralights, maker of the Challenger, and CGS Aviation, maker of the Hawk are exploring and working toward building SLSA versions of their planes.  I’d also watch Titan Aircraft, maker of the Tornado to see if they do it as well.  Heck, even the new owners of Quicksilver have made noises about making an SLSA version of the MX which would be a trainer for the very low-and-slow end.  I’m really hoping it happens.
