Did
you fly a Bell Ranger or a JetRanger? The Ranger is a very old helicopter
from the late 1950s, that evolved from the Bell 47.
I've
never flown a Ranger, but the JetRanger is a very stable machine, as helicopters
go. For a real experience of what it was like to fly the early choppers,
try a Hiller or Bell 47 (H-13). Modern turbine helicopters like the
JetRanger (206) are far more stable than the early piston pounders
are.
As for
the T-6, I owned an SNJ in college. Loud, and expensive. When it
needed a new battery, we sold it because a college kid couldn't afford that
battery that, if my memory is right, cost about the same as one quarter's
tuition. Yeah, they are stable in flight, but that narrow tread gear on a
paved runway could get exciting with any appreciable
crosswind.
The
SNJ doesn't have a tailwheel lock like the AAF version, the T-6 does. The
t/w is in full swivel all of the time - needed for maneuvering on a tight
carrier deck.

Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] T-6----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----Fellows and gals,Last weekend, flew a Bell Ranger helicopter. It was a good experience...hovering is more difficult than learning to land an airplane. This past weekend, flew a 1943 SNJ (T-6) on Friday, with an instructor of course, ...did loops and rolls. This is really an experience everyone should have...very rock steady, mostly unaffected by thermals compared to our light aircraft. Awesome, fantastic! Can't imagine what a current day jet would be like.On another note, we removed the leaking header tank from the coupe. It wasn't as big a deal as expected. I'm inclined to replace, not repair it, from my viewpoint, but will wait for an inspection from someone who's experienced (like John Wright).DarickN94139============================================================================== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm
