We had a nice day yesterday - the first in two weeks, and my son and I went out for a quick flight to a nearby airport for lunch. I checked the wing tanks - they had been 1/2 full after my last trip to Kentucky a couple of weeks ago - and they were dry! There was also a strong fuel smell.
I put some gas in the tanks, and after a while I could see slow dripping from the belly of the plane. The cowl tank was full, and I just had it rebuilt a few months ago, so I know it's OK. The carpet was clean, too. I pulled the seat cushion and looked under the seat pan and could see wetness, but the source was in front of the main spar, so I couldn't see it. My mechanic is going to look at it tomorrow to see what the problem is. I'm really hoping it's not a leaky fuel tank, since that would be time consuming to fix and I have a big March trip planned.
So, based on experience out there and the symptoms (both tanks dry, dripping from belly just ahead of main spar) any guesses? Are there any rubber gas lines up there, or are they all metal?
