When I was looking for an Ercoupe a few years ago, a 415-E in that condition
was not to get under 25k.
Now all non-C models seem worthless.

It is surprising how the LSA rule flipped the coin on the Ercoupe fleet. Before
LSA, all higher gross weight models were costing close to 30k when in good
condition, now it's the lower gross weight models.
The median price for Coupes has not changed at all, it seems, although the
Dollar devaluated by around 33% compared to 2000.
Amazing. In my eyes Ercoupes devaluated in price over the last years, despite
the few C-models that sell for 30k.

Now is a good time to get your hands on a higher end model Ercoupe, provided
you have years ahead getting a third class medical.

Jürgen,

Someone just listed a nice looking 415E for $15,500:

Compass, Engine EGT, Panel intercom and PTT, ELT, 760 Channel King NAV/COM KX
155 & KT76A Transponder with mode C and VOR. Sensenich prop, Double nose fork
assy, Cleveland brakes, landing Lights, Strobes. New Bruce Engine and Canopy
covers, Large baggage compartment with large rear windows.
Asking $15,500.00 Call Scott @760-781-2781 or Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  Aircraft total time 1353.26
  TSMOH 1185

  All data subject to verification

As was written earlier, all Ercoupes except the 415C and 415CD (original CD,
not the C/D which implies a C model converted to a D) are still inexpensive
because they are not eligible for the USA Sport Pilot license. The LSA
compliant models are getting pretty pricey.

Where are you in Germany? I'm over there almost every year to visit friends
in Ostfriesland and I usually take a few days to travel to some of the more
scenic spots, like the Black Forest and Bavaria. I'd love to stop by and have a
beer and talk Ercoupes next time I'm over there, although it may not be until
next year.

All,
I am new to this group. I live in Germany and am a novice pilot, having
trained on C150's mostly and some on C172's.

I am a big fan of vintage aircraft and have recently by coincidence come
across the Forney Ercoupe/ Alon Aircoupe. I must say it seems very easy to get
infatuated by this beauty and from the engineering angle, I think the Coupes
are definitely covering is an amazing piece of aviation history, too.

I am actually wondering why the production of the Coupe did not totally
outnumber its main competitors. Who would want to fly a Cessna 150 when you can
fly a Coupe? Based on that thought, I have browsed ads for Coupes in
"globalplanesearch.com" and was surprised about the price levels of most of the
offers. Can anybody tell me why it is that I can apparently buy a coupe at half
or about a third of the price of a Piper Cub made around the same time?

E.g. this one, where the asking price is $ 18,000.--
    http://www.ipilot.com/classifieds/display.aspx?pid=9992
I am wondering whether something must be "wrong" with it, or whether I have
just not looked for the right things so far.

I will have to check about how tedious or expensive it would be to buy an
N-registered Coupe in the U.S., bring it here and have it German-registered. To
my knowledge, only 11 Coupes are flying in Germany today. The thought to
complete the dozen tickles me!

    Grateful for your feedback!

    Regards from overseas
    Juergen
