"The Library of Congress Photos is trying an experiment using Flickr.com to capture metadata (i.e. captions) associated with images in the archive. For this experiment they have uploaded 3,000 images seeking valuable information from the general public that might otherwise be impossible to find. "Early photo metadata was typically handwritten on the back of prints and/or in photographer logbooks, often long separated from the original images.
