Scott,
When I got my 'Coupe, I changed from renters' insurance to an owner's
policy with AIG. I am licensed PP operating under SP ("PPouSP"),
told the agents that I am, and had no problem getting a quote either
from AIG or Avemco. The only small wrinkle I found in the fine print
of my particular policy was this: while in general terms any pilot
who flies it with my permission is covered without being expressly
listed, that only applies if they are licensed PP and above. If
their license is SP, I need to contact my agent and have them listed
by name as an additional user. (And of course, when Jessica flew
mine as a student pilot with Glen Davis as CFI, I had to have her
listed by name -- which AIG kindly did for us at minimal extra expense.)
While flying PPouSP did not cause me any difficulties getting
coverage, you do want to see it in writing from the insurer, as was
suggested here earlier.

Here's a question for the group,
When one applies for insurance for an airplane, one of the questions on
the form is date of last medical. If one is flying Light Sport and
does not have
a current medical, will the insurance companies insure his plane?
This is something that came up at our last EAA chapter meeting.
