We have been blessed with 6 granchildren, so far :-)
3 girls ages 10, 9, & 8 and 3 boys ages 4, 3, & 1
Our 9 year old grand daughter was spending the weekend
with us, and we were to pack up the horses and go to a horse
show on Sunday, but gram ma was'nt up to it Sunday morning.
So on a whim I said how bout her and I go to breakfast and
take the coupe up and let gram ma sleep in.
Out came a great big YES ! So to the airport we go.
I went thru the preflight inspection, check list, and emergency
procedures with her and tried best to explain each step and it's
importance.
After taxing out to 33 and getting a good mag and carb heat ck.
I announce our departure, as we start our roll I see this gigantic
smile, and her eyes grow wide with amazement.
As the wheels leave terra firma and we begin a nice climb out at
70 mph She is commenting on how things are looking so small, ect.
We level off at 2500' and for the next hour we fly over alot of
local land marks she knew, the homestead, and even the horse show
that we were missing. All that time it was so great to see mother
earth from a birds view for the first time as a nine year old saw
it that day. What all we talked about, saw, and felt during that
one hour of flight, I could write a book on.
After a smooth landing, and as we taxied back to put the coupe to
rest she was already making plans for her next time up.
As she talked to her mom later that day about her time in the sky,
the best thing was when she helped Grampa fly the plane.
Yep, I believe there's another pilot brew'n in the family.
As for me I'm mak'n plans, for I have another 5 (or more)
grandkids to give wings to.
