Ah, reminds me of the winter I spent in Minnesota in 1977-1978.

 

That winter Minneapolis had some huge number of consecutive days it
didn’t get UP to freezing (66 in 1977/1978 and 58 in 1978/1979).

 

As I passed through the city one day, the radio was bragging that they
had passed 30 days in which it didn’t get up to zero F.  

 

Temps of -25°F to -35°F were common that winter in the areas I worked
(inside except for travelling to a new location every day).

 

Minnesota and the states around there DO understand winter!  And I
learned how to . . . and survived!  (That experience, along with other
winter camping, helped me a few years later when I taught classes in
cold weather operations to my arctic infantry Army Reserve unit before
that winter camping I mentioned earlier.)

 

I’m sure Ron can top these stories with Alberta yarns, though.  They
sometimes have real winters up there!
