With a fixed pitch prop, you can never run the engine red line at climb out. If you do, something is wrong. Think: Whet rpm should the prop run at AFTER the climb out when it already redlines while climbing. My experience with a C-85 and McCauley props is as follows: The 7148 overspeeds easily in cruise, the 7150 overspeeds sometimes and the 7152 makes it only slightly before redline . They all climb within a 2200 rpm range. The flatter props slightly faster. A constant speed prop should show closer to redline values while climbing, hence the name constant speed propeller. Hartmut

I recently bought a Millennium rebuild for my C85 Continental engine. Everything firewall forward is new except for the reman crankcase. It has a McCauley 1A90-CF Prop - 7148 (climb pitch). Full throttle static RPM is 2150, it climbs out at 2250. Airport buddies say it should climb out at redline, 2575 rpm's. Straight and level it redlines with no problems. I disagree but I'm no expert so what do you think? THANKS A LOT! Jack _________________________________________________________________ Get Windows Live and get whatever you need, wherever you are.
