Hi Wayne,

I presume you refer to the A-2 model. There was no Alon A-2 Serial No. 1.

The prototype A-2 was a Carlsbad coupe F-1A airframe, Serial No. 5754. According to FAA records, this airframe was later converted by Alon to an A-2A on or about 6/30/67. It was not the A-2A prototype, because Serial B-247 was completed on 6/23/67. Although I have no date of manufacture for Serial B-246, it was on display by Alon at the Reading, PA, industry Air Show in June of '67. I would speculate that it was the first A-2A completed.

There were also Alon A-2A models produced at McPherson (one of which became the first M10).

Regards,

Of the 245 Alons produced at Mcpherson, KS, less than 10 % were not equipped with rudder pedals, but other options were available such as IFR instrumentation, Auto Pilot (Brittain), the kiddy seat meant for total passenger load of the baggage compartment.  This load was variable depending on the weight and balance of individual aircraft.  My Alon was so equipped with only one seat.  I flew my then 9 month old Grandson in the compartment ONE time till I realized that the noise level was to high even for noise canceling headsets, and that with a car seat installed, the survivability of a rollover was doubtful.   An excellent treatise is  "The Ercoupe" by Stanley G. Thomas. copies show up on the internet from time to time.
