Hey Rick: If you are an A&P with the approved paperwork from the FAA, you
can make the modifications to put Rams Horn style yokes in your Coupe.
(Kevin is) The change you are talking about is considered a major change
because
it modifies the control system of the Ercoupe. The Rams Horn style yokes
were put in later Aircoupe aircraft (Alon for example) and required shorter
yokes as well as a different attach system.
There was a kit FMK-14 sold by Skyport (when it was at American
Champion Aircraft) which included the Rams Horn style yokes and a sample 337
to
use to obtain FAA approval. Making the change to your aircraft without the
proper approval, paperwork, and documentation could create problems for you
or your family at a later date.

That is what I was thinking. The hub of the Cessna type yoke is longer,
which probably means allowing the hub itself to replace the elevator stop
bushing.

My thought is to remove one yoke, slip on the new one, allow the original
side to bottom out against the panel, and then measure the distance between
the panel and the new yoke. Removing that length of yoke tube from both
sides should allow the elevator travel to remain uneffected.

Sound correct?

Rick
