Perhaps "some" read into requirements that which is not there.

If such requirements are presumed to apply only to "airworthy" airframes, one wing tank gauge measures the level in both wing tanks unless there is malfunction in tank caps/vents/return line(s) OR the balancing line between the wing tanks is somehow prevented from doing it's job of maintaining equal fuel in each wing tank.

In any event the Ercoupe tank/fuel gauge setup met the requirements in effect at the time of original certification of each individual airframe. That's the only applicable standard for fuel gauges as applicable to "older" designs.

Some say fuel gauge is one for each tank. Not all our Ercoupes would comply, if that's correct. Any ideas on how to deal with that?
