I do have OpenSSL 1.1.1b  26 Feb 2019 so perhaps something else is missing?

The URL is already http:// as the following shows, or have I misunderstood what you mean?

The pop up dialog displays the following when eric starts, is that a clue?

Warning:

QSslSocket::connectToHostEncrypted: TLS initialization failed

An Internet search shows that this is a common problem and it means that openssl is missing.
