Subject: Is Writing the product of Counting?

See the excerpt from "How Writing Came About" at the University of Texas

One can envision a step prior to the "filing" of tokens in sealed vessels,
involving use of tokens in open bins, or simply holes dug in the earth.

Games to teach stone-age bookkeeping might have been played for enjoyment
long after more abstract methods replaced the tokens in commerce. They'd be
our mancala-type games.
