AS: can't find iit on the list. Personal reply, or just gamne+sf brakes ?
Most probably a case of "reply" instead of "reply all" :-)
The issue is that when developing Erlide, the backend needs both to know
it is special (i.e. when recompiling it has to update the code on the
"child" backend too)
Why too ?
As far as i understand it, i am using some fixed moreorless stable build
of plugin and am developing unstable-yet new release.
It is only the child backend to be updated after compilation.
Yes and no. Currently there is only one backend per Eclipse instance, yes,
but the idea is that each project could have its own backend. Partly to
avoid possible name clashes between modules in different projects, but
mostly to allow using remote (and pre-existing) nodes as backend (for
example having the node running on/with specific hardware).
also to know which one of possibly several Erlang nodes is the right
backend.
Perhaps Master ErlIDE could launch slave Eclipse with some arguments to
make slave ErlIDE use given name as node name ?
see above, there could be several slaves.
It's possible to implement some mechanism to find out, but unless
there's strong reason to do that I will take the simple solution,
Just decorate it as a server, returning on the request the proper nodename
or node or even PID maybe.
That would later allow, i think, to be easily replaced :)
Yes, it would be possible. The trouble is that Java nodes are also involved.
And the current implementation isn't very flexible.
But I'm working on it, and the feedback is very useful! Thanks!
regards,
Vlad
