ARIANE is not a only a french rocket. 12 European countries participating in the Ariane program. France pays IMHO slighly more than 50 % for the Ariane program. The Germans usually get quite upset when the Ariane program is called a french rocket. But I agree, without the French there wouldn't exist an Ariane.
