Dear ESN Sections, I would like to inform you that from Friday on we'll clean up the sections mailing list. I said I would already do it more than two weeks ago. To find out if you'll stay on the section mailing list, please check the file http://www.esn.org/data/data.xls . Check for the email of your section. If it is not there, your email will be removed. If the background of your section's data is yellow, it means I received confirmation the data is correct and your email for sure will stay on the sections mailing list. If the background of your section's data is not in yellow, it means I didn't receive any confirmation the data of your section is correct and it is not guaranteed that your email will stay on the section's mailing list.
If the background of your section's data is not yellow, please send and confirm me your data. I want to inform you that I also noticed some rumours of people being unhappy with me putting the Excel file with data from the National Representatives and sections online, because of a "security risk". I have three comments to these hidden critics: The only way for me to be able to correct the data I have is to communicate it to you, so you can check the data I have of you and you can tell me if your data is wrong. The easiest way for me to do this is to put all data in one Excel file I update from the moment I receive new data and that is accessible to all of you. The security risk is exaggerated and practically inexistent. The first reason for this is that all data in the Excel file is supposed to be public. The outer world should know this data in order to be able to contact the local sections and also the sections should know this data, in order to be able to contact each other. This Excel file is a service we offer to you: it is a "phone book" containing the public contact data of the other sections. If you wouldn't like some of your data to be public, then please tell me and I'll remove it. I also heared about fear for malicious hackers determined to hijack the file and paralyzing whole ESN by abusing the information in it. They would get the file instantly, as a first hit in search engines. It is technically impossible for the file to show up as a result in a search engine if there does not exist a webpage linking to the file. I never created a webpage linking to the file. Also, the file is in a directory with forbidden access, thus a person with bad intent isn't able to search for the file by scanning our website. The only ones who can access the file are the ones who know the link and these are you: the sections, no one else. As a last comment: if you have any critics to the job I do, then please, contact me. I'll take your critics into consideration and reflect about them. If instead you're complaining to other people, without me knowing of something, I can't take your remarks into consideration. Thanks to all sections who confirmed me their data, -- Toon G.Y. Macharis ESN Intl.
