G'day Ista, Thanks for setting me straight on that. I was misled by the fact that my username on this machine is pat. Something led me to believe that the twitter environment would be TWITTER_WORK but I don't have remote access to check (and be disabused of that notion).
In any case, the problem seems to have vanished. I'm a bit uncomfortable not understanding why the problem arose and disappeared with no error message. I've wasted hours on this issue.
