My suggestion - i.e., have the box after "Calc:" in the IO-Stat window accept a filter expression, not just a field name - would give you the first of those, and would, I think, be backwards-compatible with what we have now.
A new COUNT_OCCURRENCES(*) operator would give you the second of those, although it would probably have to support only expressions that contain only one field name.
