While reading lwn.net/daily, I found a link to the following article:

It basically states that Cisco is using Linux as the OS for the NAM
(network analysis module, mostly rmon) blade for the Catalyst 6500.
This sparked my interest and after gunzip and restore, I was able to
run tethereal (version 0.8.19) from the restored tree :-)
Looks like they built a plugin for some proprietary stuff (nam.so).
Also looks like it is used via a Webinterface for packet capture+display
(can't test this today).

I found out that "pro" means "instead of" (as in proconsul). Now I know
what proactive means.
