This sounds like a great idea to me. It has so many uses byond SQL encoding. I once did a limited tcpdump->HTML perl script to create a poor man's remote network monitor. If tethereal could dump to XML directly, generating HTML would be "simple". Having XML output of [t]ethereal would be very useful to me.

Howabout dumping to XML, and letting users use other tools if they want SQL. Those tools exist (IIUC), and XML can handle the complexity.
