The length of the column label for source and destination addresses is too short for most addresses, and some other columns might similarly be too short, such as the "No." column.
GUI settings should not be written to the decoding preferences I think.
Mac OS X Mail.app appears to set the "From" column's width to a value greater than the width of "From"; I don't know where it got the width (there's unlikely to be a routine returning the longest human name possible :-)), but it didn't just pick the column label width.
If the user doesn't like the width, they can change it.
