After a number of attempts, I have been successful in getting WinPcap to recognize my PCMCIA NIC.I have just upgraded my laptop to Win2000 (my first exposure to this OS) and when I try to start a ethereal capture, I see no network adaptors in the pull-down menu.
I thought, at first, that it was because the OS came up without registering the PCMCIA network adaptor, so I stopped and then restarted the card. However, I find that it is working right from the boot-up.
Does anyone have a troubleshooting scenario that I can use to diagnose, and then fix, this problem?
I believe that the problem was that when I was installing the various versions, having removed the previous ones (I believed) via Software Add/Remove, I was queried is I wanted to replace DLLs with older ones. I had been answering no. Somehow M$ seemed to have forgotten that packets.dll, etc, were part of WinPcap, so they didn't remove, or even OFFER to remove, several DLLs. Once I answered "Yes" to the overwrite query, everything became copasetic.
Gimme unix, everytime!
