Are you trying to capture on any form of PPP interface, including, for
example, a PPPoE session on your LAN? If so:

In any case, this is almost certainly a WinPcap problem. Try it when
capturing with WinDump and, if the same problem happens and there isn't
any PPP interface involved, report the problem to the WinPcap
developers:
