You do not need this switch any more.

It's in the name:
- devel: test and playground
- stable-X.Y.Z: for productive use.

As regards the numbering scheme:
        Z: binary compatible to your application; no recompile
        Y: source compatible to your application; recompile may be
neccessary
        X: breaking changes to your application; may require code
changes
        
Unless you have special requirements, use the stable branch.
