I like the Étoilé, it looks and sounds clean. Other words related to 'Étoilé'
(star) can be: bright, shiny, elegant, calm, hope-bringing... Or if for no
other reasons, then at least for the reason that it has accents :o)))

But seriously, the resonance sounds too hard and evokes negative feelings. Also
the resonance, as majority of people understand it, is usualy unpleasant
effect.

I would suggest some word for a nice object or a word from some kind of art,
for example music. Well, in fact GNUstep is kind of art, isn't it? If we pick a
word, the word should be "surronded" by other nice and pleasant words.

Here are few examples of words, where we can start to search through the
network of words to find appropriate one:

NOUNS
(with some translations that do not sound nor look too bad)

Group: music
Words: melody, concerto, rhapsody (already used), symphony, sonata
Comments: not only for musical application, nice feelings

Group: earth, heaven
Words: star/étoilé/hviezda, world/svet, universe, objects, infinity, immensity,
planet, moon/luna, sun

Group: elements
Words: water/aqua/eau/voda, fire/feu, air, earth/zem
Comments: They are variants to Aqua and this will make the name less original

Group: objects/building blocks
Words: stones, bricks, blocks, rocks

Group: land
Words: forest/les, ant-hill, meadow(s), field(s), path/chemin

I would suggest to avoid: concrete animals, flowers, technical objects or body
parts. They can be names of ones preferences/likes/dislikes, for example, cats
vs. dogs.

ADJECTIVES

Either the noun itself should evoke nice adjectives or we can add one.

STIMULATION

Definitely, the name should stimulate one or more of the following:

* friendliness
* progress (as NeXT)
* evolution
* brightness (emotional)
* openness
* modularity

For example, for the Étoilé/star:
* friendliness, brightness - direct possible associations
* openness, evolution, progress - universe
* modularity - less evident, but universe is "composed of objects" - stars :o)
Sun is a star too, it is warm, brings energy to most of the life here...

STORIES

1. Étoilé

Geeks can think of a different story: stars are live objects in an open object
universe. Each star has a system around it with planets - smaller objects,
where life is. If the solar system is like an application with core and
surronding object then space-travel is inter-application communication.
Distributed notifications are interplanetary television broadcasting.
Distributed objects use space-teleports. Internet is like whole universe, where
one machine is like galaxy of stars. Inter-galactic travel is communication
with distant machines over the internet.

2. Rhapsody (even existing name)

Developers are like composers. Maestro [application] is performing his music in
the orchestra [the GNUstep environment]. The applications are performing in
harmony and produce nice melody [elegant output of applications].

CONCLUSION

So, turn on your fantasy, create other similar lists and try to crawl the
words. Use www.thesaurus.com for crawling, for example. In addition, try to
translate the words to other languages to see how it will sound and look like.
And do not be affraid of accents. Finally try to create a nice story, if you
can. If you can not, then think of another word.

Have a nice sunny day,
