... after two modifications:
The toplevel GNUmakefile should have
# Xwindow
ADDITIONAL_CPPFLAGS += -DHAVE_LIBX11=1
ADDITIONAL_INCLUDE_DIRS += -I/usr/X11R6/include
ADDITIONAL_LIB_DIRS += -lX11 -lXft
and GNUmakefile in render/ accordingly an additional
ADDITIONAL_INCLUDE_DIRS += -I/usr/X11R6/include
to have it compile cleanly on FreeBSD (at least).
