I would like to ask what's the state of the Etoile icons? Do we have
anything new here?

Nothing new yet, as I just started a new job and am currently doing a paid icon project for Andreas at Smartsoft (which I should have wrapped up by this weekend). After that, I can start working on the Etoile icons again.

I was recently trying to draw some new icons for Grr, and digging in the Tango project's website, I found quite nice instructions on how to draw
something in the 'Tango'-way and found myself drawing icons in that
style quite fast. Unfortunately, the results are maybe a bit too bright
in comparison with other GNUstep and Etoile icons.

Can we come up with something like a color palette for Etoile icons? I
got the impression that this would make drawing icons a lot easier and
provide a bit of an overall-consistency among our icons that's currently
lacking. The Tango palette seems quite nice to me, so I'd personally
vote for a downsaturated version of that. But maybe it's a better idea
to pipette-pick some colors from existing typical GNUstep icons.

Anyone wants to volunteer on that task? :-) It's pretty easy to do and
it's a great opportunity to contribute something to Etoile that can
easily be seen afterwards.

I had been considering doing that for a while now. Here's one I just mocked up now, based on the icons I've already designed... I even gave them clever names like the Tango people did :)

There are some colors that I use for specific things... Blueprint is used on developer-type tools (like in GORM and ProjectManager), and Natural is always used for paper and envelope icons, etc. You might also want to consider what Jasper's icons look like, as he might be using some higher-chroma colors. But, ideally, they should all work pretty well together (as most of mine are based on his style and colors).

I hope that helps -- let me know if you have questions!

J.
