Maybe this option can come with the theme.
As for Mantella, it is still very experimental.
And I might have a solution to put the scroll bar on the left. :P

Me too, yet  I'm fine with right side by default.
The merit of scrollbar on the left is you can observe your position in the document without moving eyes to the right, since eyes are most of time anchored to the left (if your language uses left-to-right writing direction).

How about allowing user to drag the slider to the other side..
eg. like dragging dock in wmaker?

I think a simple checkbox in Appearance pane of Look & Behavior would do the trick as well.
