It is an algorithmically generated UI, but the algorithm is very
simple. Have you used Windows or GNOME? Both allow configuration
via an interface like this; the registry and GConf respectively. Do
you find it easier to use the preference pane, or edit the registry
directly? With OS X apps, do you find it easier to use their
preference panes, or edit the defaults directly with the plist editor?
Documents have user interface components in Étoilé. Just because the
preferences are a document (which is an interesting way of thinking,
and possibly one worth pursuing), does not mean that they should
abandon having their own NIB files laying out the interface. Would
you suggest that instead of vector images, we have an outline view
listing all of the arcs and vertexes? If not, why should preferences
be treated differently.
