You have a couple choices. The standard way is to build and install the whole etoile/stable/Etoile. You will also need some adjustments to it in order to have Login.app and System running. If you just want to try some components in Etoile, say Grr, Jabber, Typewriter, you can build them one-by-one and run them as standard GNUstep application. A middle way I use is starting with Gnome and replace the essential components of Gnome. For example, you can replace metacity with Azalea, gnome-panel with AZDock and MenuServer. In that way, it is easier to debug. As for using libraries on OS X, Jabber works perfect with xcode support. RSSKit, CollectionKit, BookmarkKit compile with gnustep-make. UnitKit and OgreKit are ported from Cocoa. You may want to use the original one since we may break it on OS X.
