Sounds a lot like EPOC.  You didn't usually quit apps with EPOC, you  
just switched to the new one.  There was a quit feature in each app,  
but this was only ever used when you ran out of memory (which  
happened surprisingly infrequently on a machine with only 256KB of RAM).
