Looks like I use an old Étoilé trunk revision r4109 vs r4119 and the  
NSRange test was only recently added. After updating my working copy  
of SmalltalkTests, I can confirm the NSRange test fails also in my case:

Test: TestNSRangeBoxing
Aborted (core dumped)
-e TestNSRangeBoxing: FAIL (crash)
