This is not normal -- it could be because some servers (e.g. the

No, Objective-C has nothing to do with this. Remember, it was first
used as the main programming language (including kernel drivers) on a
NeXT cube -- sporting a 68040 running at the blazing speed of 25Mhz!

Now, Vindaloo might be slower than evince on your machine for a
variety of other reasons (it's not maintained actively too, so nobody
worked on any performance improvements for example). So yeah, it's
more a case of Vindaloo being written quickly and nobody had a shot at
improving the performances yet :)
