Hi David, the LLVM packages in Ubuntu don't work for me, either.

I tried the LLVM 2.5 package in Ubuntu 9.04, and LK compiled fine but
all Smalltalk tests fail with a crash. Switching to the copy of LLVM
2.5 I compiled from source fixes the problem.
