I'm having fun.
apt-get is awsome. I don't think any of the other distro's would use this
though. They want you to buy their products. This eliminates the reason
for ever buying software again.
The boxed version I got is 2.1 (slink) release. It has a real book not a
file. I would like to get a burnt copy of the latest (potato).
I found the the ftp site for kde and put the full directory in
/etc/apt/source.list
i.e.
ftp://ftp.kde.org/kde/stable/1.1.2/distribution/deb/slink/i386/
It doesn' like it when I run
apt-get -install kde
I get an error
Malformed Line 11 in source list /etc/apt/source.list (URI)
The list of sources could not be read
or do I have to type each individual package as in
apt-get -install kdeadmin_1.1.2-19990906-1_386.deb
also I got ssh and used dpkg --install ssh_1.2.3-9.deb and it needs some
other files do I have to dowload these then install them.
Seth do you have the path to the helix gnome site?
Once I get over this Debian newbie phase it will be a piece of cake since
dpkg, dselect & apt-get are the greatest. Once I started playing around
with these I went wow this is what Seth was talking about. The power of
free software. :-)
It's like having Napster for the OS. Am I excited or is it the coffee
giving me the jitters.
Yesterday on Linuxtoday.com it had two articles about Debian.
