Sndconfig detects it but freezes when it tries to play a sound sample. At that point, I have to actually poweroff /on to reboot. I downloaded the alsa driver. I could get sound from CD working. However it does not plays MP3s, midis etc. I know that the amixer mutes sound by default. Even after setting everything unmute, it still does not play anything. This does not make sense - right - the sound from a CD is controlled by the sound card as well ? So why should one thing work and not another ?
