Anyway, I figured out a better way to clear the apt-get/dpkg list of pending packages to install: I commented out my sources in "/etc/apt/sources.list" and then re-ran "apt-get update". Now everything, including dselect, is back to normal again. I'm happy to report that I got my dial-up connection and working! The problem there was that I had to manually create a serial device and wire up my modem to it. Mandrake uses devfs so I didn't have to do this before. It only took me a few hours to figure out, thanks to some help I received from Mark Bigler. Now that apt-get is working again, I'm going to try to download a copy of Jigdo; for some reason it's not included in the 3.0.0 ISOs.
