I don't know what the one thing I need is; I'm looking for all the
security updates to date.

How would I even find the 96 packages it wants to upgrade? And
even if I did, selecting each one and typing H would be a drag.

Anyway, I figured out a better way to clear the apt-get/dpkg list
of pending packages to install: I commented out my sources in
"/etc/apt/sources.list" and then re-ran "apt-get update". Now
everything, including dselect, is back to normal again.

I'm happy to report that I got my dial-up connection and working!
The problem there was that I had to manually create a serial device
and wire up my modem to it. Mandrake uses devfs so I didn't have to
do this before. It only took me a few hours to figure out, thanks
to some help I received from Mark Bigler.

Now that apt-get is working again, I'm going to try to download
a copy of Jigdo; for some reason it's not included in the 3.0.0
ISOs.

Cheers,
Dexter
