To support a lesser evil, Yahoo has free email w/optional pay
POP access and a Messenger service that always works with GAIM.
At least Yahoo and AOL have both released "unix" versions of
their IM programs as well. I personally like Yahoo's Messenger
for linux though tend to use GAIM more often to lessen the
clutter.
