SANS makes a lot of useful information available for free to the
community. One of their more interesting projects recently, IMHO, has
been the development of a one-page "cheat sheet" for administrators to
help them look for strange behavior on a system that might indicate a
break-in or other security issue.

The Linux cheat sheet is available from the following URL:

        http://www.sans.org/score/checklists/ID_Linux.pdf

Yes, there's also one for Windows 2000 and XP if you're into that kind
of thing:

        http://www.sans.org/score/checklists/ID_Windows.pdf

You might want to try following the steps in the cheat sheets on your
machines every month or so. You never know what might turn up...

Happy hacking!
