Like Cory Said... Imagemagcik... Ive used the gimp a bunch, its a sweet peice of software, but for batch processing stuff you probably want imagemagick ( http://www.imagemagick.org ) . Imagemagick is a package of command line tools that manipulate/convert images, its really cool... you can do a lot of neet stuff.
