If you subtract 8 hours from chezgeek, you get our localtime, so I guess that's right, but Thunderbird is telling me the stamp on this email is 05:24, which doesn't seem like the right thing to do.

If I understand it correctly, it IS the right thing to do, because it's also saying that it's using GMT/UTC (-0000). So when you put the two together (the time and the zone) it's right.
