The N52 is recognized as a USB keyboard. There is at least one
project for using that controller under linux. Belkin has no

Logitech. The MX series of mice with all the extra buttons have
to be programmed manually. Really, how hard would it be for
these vendors to make a little gui that can write out an
xorg.conf file for you? (and back up the original just in case).
The only other issue with the N52 is because it's recognized as
a USB keyboard linux may set it as the primary input device and
not allow you to type on your "other" keyboard.
If the mouse is a proper HID device, then a generic program could (and
should) be written for which a mouse profile could be written, similar to
the way xkeycaps works. If all Logitech had to do was produce one graphic
of the mouse, a set of masks to represent buttons, and a translation of
HID events to physical doohickies on the mouse, I bet you they'd be more
open to it--especially if you could find someone at Logitech who actually
works on their drivers or something.
Wouldn't do any good. They don't make decisions. The greater the
technical knowlege, the less the power. Think "pointy hair".
