Hi, John.

I know you already got a router, but I just today found out more
about my Linksys.

I'm planning to use the OpenWrt firmware.

According to OpenWrt's compatibility chart, mine is a Linksys WRT54G
version 4.0. I got it at Best Buy for $40 ($60 before rebates, which
I haven't sent in yet, yikes! :-( ) It has 4 MB of flash and 16 MB of
RAM. That's not much, so I may be limited in the functionality I can
install, but that's what I got for $40.

I don't know yet whether this box will replace the existing router or
just be for playing around.
